The The Glasgow Chamber Orchestra is a charity registered in Scotland No SC022256 The Orchestra is affiliated to Making Music Scotland - Supporting and Championing Voluntary Music

The Glasgow Chamber Orchestra is an amateur orchestra based in Glasgow, and has been making music here for over 50 years. We give 3 main concerts each year, usually in March, May and November. You can find out lots more about the orchestra and its music in the pages of this web-site. Hopefully, you will be encouraged to come along to a concert, or if you are a musician, you may be interested in joining us. Rehearsals

Huge thanks to John Cushing for taking over our first rehearsal at short notice! However, Robert Baxter is now back at the helm and rehearsals are going well for our next concert in November. The full schedule can be found by clicking on the button below.

GCO Winter Concert

It seems a long way away, while we ‘enjoy’ the Scottish summer weather, but our next concert is now set for Sunday 22 November in Sherbrooke Mosspark church. It promises to be another exciting concert with the highlight of Alison McNeill singing several of the beautiful Songs of the Auvergne by Canteloube. GCO Play Day !

Our first ever Play Day took place on Saturday 5 September, with conductor Nick Wilks putting the orchestra through its paces as we rehearsed Schubert’s Symphony No 9 (the Great). This was a really enjoyable day, with the full work being performed at the end of the afternoon. Thanks go to everyone who took part, both GCO members and guest musicians. The standard of playing was very high, boding well for the season of music-making to come. Thanks, also, to Nick Wilks, for making the Play Day both great fun, and very educational. Feedback from the players was universally positive, so perhaps we are looking at a regular addition to the GCO calendar of events from now on!

GCO 70th Anniversary Season !

The Glasgow Chamber Orchestra traces its origins back to the formation of the Glasgow Strings Orchestra in 1956. The name was subsequently changed to the Glasgow Chamber Orchestra in 1967, when the decision was taken to add wind, brass and percussion to the group in order to tackle a wider range of smaller-scale orchestral repertoire. Our plans to celebrate this anniversary are still being developed, but we have already scheduled a dinner for the orchestra on Tuesday 1 June, and our final concert of the season, promises to be a very special occasion, with music from Copland, Barber and Dvorak. More details on our celebrations will be published as soon as they are confirmed, but this should be a very exciting season for our players and audience alike!
